Sovereign Christ Church
DailyTheocentrism: Ministry = His words, His strength -His Glory. (1 Peter 4:11)
We are stewards of a Message that is not ours. We are not masters of it, but it is to master us. We wield no great power, but rather bear witness to Another’s power. We are not professionals, but paupers rich in love and life.
We are clay pots- dirt baked hard;
We are sheep- even the shepherds are sheep;
We are vines- utterly dependent on the Root for life;
We are sinners, saved through a Message that is not ours;
We are not masters of it, but it is to master us…
The message is not our own;
The strength is not our own;
The ministry is not our own;
We are not our own;
Therefore:
There is no power in prayer, but power in God;
ALL praise belongs to God alone.
There is no power in the preacher, but power in the Gospel.
It is God’s power for salvation.
There is no power in the gifts, but power in the Spirit.
We are impotent- He is omnipotent.
There is no power in the Church, but power in the Head;
Severed from Christ, we are lifeless and lost.
There is no boasting, save in the One who
Made us;
Owns us;
Holds us;
Speaks for us;
Speaks through us;
Guides us;
Strengthens us;
Animates us;
Loves us.
Sovereign Christ Church: Indiana Jones has lifted the golden monkey and the ball is rolling . . .
We, my brother and my friend, Jason Pierce (in case you didn’t know that) Chamberlain graduated tonight, having completed the requirements for his Masters of Divinity. Well done, Jason.
Tomorrow, back to work . . .
We were holding back the reigns a bit so that Jason could finish his studies strong and well, and by God’s grace and strength, he did. Now, here are some things about the church plant to expect very soon, so pass the word.
- Articles about distinctive of this fellowship and the why’s behind the what’s
- Core group meeting throughout the summer: For those of you that God has impressed upon you to get on mission and to do this with us – and you know who you are – we will be meeting throughout the summer in addition to your regular weekly worship where you are attending now. These meetings will be to begin to humble ourselves before God, to pray for wisdom and conformity to His will, to dialog about what the Church is and how we can savor in Christ as we are teaching others to do the same. We will discus in those meetings how we intend to accomplish the call to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus, the Christ – our Lord.
- Town Meetings: We are hoping to schedule two Town Meetings this summer to inform other families about what we are doing. The reason for this is two-fold. First, we just want to spread the wealth that real fellowship and real servant ministry and real grace-centered living is possible – and it really doesn’t matter how you’re dressed while you are doing it. Second, we want to expose others to the calling the Lord has given us to reach out with the Gospel to East Raleigh/Knightdale and lay out the opportunity to help. This will also be a time that you can interact with the elders with any questions you might have.
- Location and dates for the launch: We have been looking into this and have a lot of info to work with. We just need to pray and seek God’s provision for both.
- Social media opportunities like Facebook and Twitter
- Active and helpful website
- Ways that friends can help.
Please feel free to email us with any questions and we’ll keep you posted.

The Western Church is a Stepford Wife
Maybe you don’t know the premise of the story . . .
Essentially a community is designed and populated with robotic wives – perfect robotic wives, so their husbands can do what ever they want without the trappings of spousal accountability, commitment, humility, etc. It is: I create a world that appears to be like the real world, yet under the surface it is artificial . . . maybe sinister.
Remember that idolatry is really self-worship. That is, when one carves an idol, names the idol, places the idol and then decides (without the input of the idol, I might add) how the idol is to be worshipped – and yes, I’m talking about pseudo-pagan/animistic polity here – at the end of the day, who’s Creator; who’s Sovereign; who’s the real God? For the idolators, it’s themselves.
Let me lob another kernal into the popper before I get to the punch-line. It was C.S. Lewis in his The Four Loves, I think, that remarked in regards to love, that at the moment it becomes your god, it becomes your devil.
Now, with those two ideas in the hopper, let’s get back to the original. The church is messy and sometimes a mess. Why? What’s the problem? People.
Of course, they’re (we’re) the point also.
