What we all need to know: A Family Catechism – Yours for Free

Our fellowship, Sovereign Christ Church recently finished our first edition of our Family Catechism. A Catechism is :

catechesis, catechism. The process of teaching the basic Christian beliefs and the contents of the Scriptures either to a child who is raised in the church or to a new convert to Christianity. This process is often accomplished through the use of a catechism, a popular manual that often uses a question-and-answer format.

That is what this is . . . yet, we have found that more than children and new converts need to work on this stuff. Some of the parents in our fellowship have been learning along side their little ones.

So, please take this and pass it along to any you think would benefit from it. In our modern church, families have stopped being “little churches”, as Edwards called us to be. Parents, so often, ARE NOT discipling their children. There is a movement, of late, for parents to treat the Church, really just the Sunday Morning Event of the Church, as a therapeutic drop-off service for all age-groups in the family to get their fix by others and hope, maybe, that it just comes together in the end. This is neither what Church is, nor church is . . . but that is another post. The point is:

1. Children are given to parents first. The discipleship should occur first in the home.

2. Men are called to lead their families unto the Lord and should lead the discipleship in the home.

3. Like the Athanasian Creed states, knowing the truths of the faith can be tantamount to salvation.

4. If you were asked these questions, could you answer: (Sample questions from The Family Catechism)
